Top Gun San Diego (name later changed to Top Gun Senior Softball) was formed in the mid-1980s for the purpose of providing senior softball tournaments in the San Diego area. The initial tournaments were held on what was then the Miramar Naval Air Station, a venue that was used through the 1990s.

Subsequent tournaments have been held in Escondido, San Clemente, Hemet, Perris, Menifee, San Clemente, Bullhead and Yuma. The first team to carry the Top Gun name began to play in the 60s division in 1992. In the years since then, Top Gun Softball teams have won “ring” level championships in over 65 major tournaments and counting!
